What is Christian counseling?
“There is enough light for those who only desire to see,
and enough obscurity for those who have a contrary disposition”
Blaise Pascal
Since the 1970s particularly, there has been a growing demand for an integrative perspective of modern psychology
that is also able to transmit the moral truth of Christian faith. Counseling responded to this call and more and more
Christian psychologists have begun turning
towards the Scriptures as resource for consolation. After all the Bible has been a wonderful source of guidance and hope
for thousands of years, and now it is widely used in counseling again. Essentially Christian counseling (often referred to pastoral
psychology) has emerged as the psychology for Christian people to reorient its clients towards "living" by looking upward,
clients' perspective are able to expend both inward (gaining self-knowledge) and horizontally towards understanding
relationships.
